Frequently asked questions
Quick, plain answers about typing tests, speed formulas, Hindi & Punjabi layouts, certificates and pricing.
Is TypeX free to use?
Yes. Speed Words, the Chunked Test and the Custom Typing Test are free and need no signup. Premium exercise packs, the 30-Day Master Course, scheduled official tests and downloadable certificates may be paid or require a registered account.
Which languages can I practise typing in?
English, Hindi (Devanagari) and Punjabi (Gurmukhi). Hindi and Punjabi practice supports the Remington Gail layout and InScript, so you can type real script on a normal English keyboard.
How is typing speed (WPM) calculated?
Gross WPM = (all characters typed ÷ 5) ÷ minutes. Net WPM = gross WPM minus the penalty for uncorrected errors. Accuracy = correct characters ÷ total characters typed × 100. Different recruitment boards use slightly different formulas, so TypeX shows the exact rule set for each exam.
Does TypeX follow the PSSSB typing test format?
TypeX includes a PSSSB-style Chunked Test (a passage split into sections navigated with Enter/Page Down, with errors revealed after submit) and a rules library for Punjab and other government boards. Boards revise their rules often, so always confirm the current advertisement or notification before your exam.
What is the Remington keyboard layout for Hindi and Punjabi?
Remington Gail is a fixed key layout inherited from mechanical typewriters and widely used in government typing tests for Hindi and Punjabi. It differs from phonetic typing and from InScript. TypeX lets you practise it on a standard English keyboard with an on-screen finger guide.
Can I get a certificate, and can someone verify it?
Candidates who complete eligible tests and courses can receive a certificate with a unique code (for example TX-ABCD1234). Anyone can confirm that a certificate is genuine on the Verify Certificate page.
Does it work on mobile phones?
Yes, every practice mode is responsive. For Hindi and Punjabi typing a physical or OTG keyboard gives the most exam-like experience.
How can I improve my typing speed quickly?
Learn correct finger placement first, practise short daily sessions of 10–15 minutes, prioritise accuracy before speed, and review your weak keys. The 30-Day Master Course and Weak Spots report on TypeX are built around exactly this method.
